FROM A WINDY BEACH

I don't know if its just me who thinks
that we've reach an unprecedented height of absurdity, 
to say nothing of stupidity, that an anonymous caller from an undetectable phone can call a school district and threaten an entire town and hundreds of kids just like that.
This is a very small town. ..Under 2000 people!
Panic rapidly ensues when you see police holding machine guns guarding the elementary school.
All schools in the district placed on "lock down" Kids were terrified...wouldn't you?
So...how did this come to be?
Too much technology?...to many guns?
Too many crazies...or too many crazies with guns?
Questions that need to be addressed before this dangerous new world plunges us into unimaginable paranoia and despair.

A magical place on the Oregon Coast. A good place to refresh the lungs and contemplate huge bolders on the ocean.  How did they get there you say? Who knows but I sure enjoy them.

Are You Scared Yet?

Of artificial intelligence. ..that's what!
It has been set loose upon us...seemingly just like that...to help us they say...to do the things we can't or won't.

Well, what the hell...we unleashed the atom
unto humanity for similar reasons only the pretext was to keep us safe and end a war by immediately incinerating almost half a million people...effective to say the least!

Well now...I must think...can AI...really be a blessing in disguise? The true culmination of human prowess...the ultimate panacea?...perhaps. ..about the worst thing happening is that workers around the world are loosing their jobs at breakneck speed...to machines!
Remember those who many years ago warned of "technological displacement"?
Well, we must remember that we're barreling  towards an unpredictable and potentially life destroying future...A sentiment expressed by none other than Bill Gates, Stephen Hawkins,  and Elon Musk among others. They might know a thing or two about AI.

Now, Can we assume that highly develop Artificial intelligence is necessarily bad?
Not really. ..but, intelligence in and of itself is also not necessarily wisdom.
Super intelligence may, in its quest to perfect and preserve itself not consider
humanity to be vital or essential...in fact
It may observe it to be irrelevant and therefore expendable.

Should we ponder ways to slow AI down? Is that even possible at this point?
Is the cat out of the bag?

The real question is. ..was this part of humanity's evolutionary fate all along...that no matter what...we would always reach this point...total omniscience joining eternity.

So today went by in its quintessential glide..cool sun on the beach.
Recurring thoughts of San Francisco Bay Area. To where I Am thinking of returning.
Perhaps early this summer we'll shutter up the old beach shack and  trudge down south...in the motorhome...to find stimulating company...and some respite from ubiquitous salt intrusion.

Home town beach...where I come to clear my thinking. Also, because it's one of the few places to go in this beach side town.
Ok, today it's sunny...quite nice.
Seems to be more sunny days...it seems.

From the car windshield...watching the tall dune grass dance with the reliable breeze. ..sometimes thoughts appear faster than I can ever write them down...who would of thunk that i would be posting on this blog from my Galaxy Note phone...or "Phablet" what some call it.
Whatever it is...I'm here now...using it.
